ECDL training module 1 - Basic Concepts of Information Technology

ECDL module 1 introduces computer technology and terminology to those who are new to computing.

At the end of module 1 a candidate is expected to understand:

  • What a computer is and be able to provide examples of different types of computers. 
  • The basic building blocks of computers e.g. memory, storage, displays, input/output devices. 
  • How computer software applications are effecting society.
  • Information networks what they are and how they are used.
  • How computers are used in everyday situations, their social effects and their effect on health.
  • An appreciation of security and legal issues associated with computers e.g copyright and data protection.

The course covers:

  • What are computers.
  • Computer hardware.
  • Computer storage.
  • Software.
  • Information networks.
  • Computers in everyday life.
  • IT and society.
  • Security, copyright and the law

Course duration 1 day or 5 sessions of 1.5hrs.

We are able to offer this course during normal working hours or outside normal working hours. 

Course prerequisites:

The course does not require the delegate to have any previous knowledge of personal computers.
